Losing Love Handles, Not Your Mind - 4 Mistakes To Watch Out For

So those love handles are getting on your nerves and you'd do just about anything to get rid of them, right? Most women can totally relate. We go to movies, watch television, and buy magazines depicting women with lean bodies and tight abs; then we hear all about how swimsuit season is right around the corner, and all we can think of is losing love handles fast.

Then we make it worse by watching all the infomercials and commercials about rapid weight loss, reading about the latest diets in the tabloids, and buying in to all the hype that makes it sound so fast and easy, we wonder why we didn't lose the weight long ago.

The fact is, most women make the same mistakes trying to get rid of their love handles and extra weight over and over - and that's why they can't take it off and keep it off for good. Here are the top four mistakes most women make.

1. Crash Diets And Fad Diets

If something sounds too good to be true, you can bet it is. And if someone tells you that you can lose 10 pounds in a week following their program, they're full of beans, too. The fact is, it probably took you years to gain the weight you're trying to shed-and the love handles you're trying to eliminate that you find anything but lovely-and it's going to take some time to get the weight off and keep it off. You need to approach weight loss and fitness in a healthy way-and crash and fad diets definitely aren't it!

2. Diet Pills

Like fad diets, diet pills promise something for nothing-like quick and easy weight loss just from popping some pill? Come on! Who are we kidding here? If there was a magic potion for weight loss in a pill, you'd never see anyone in this country with a weight problem-ever! We'd all be jumping on that bandwagon. The fact is, diet pills do NOT work. So save your money and stick to a common sense approach.

3. Starving Yourself

If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times. Starving yourself, fasting, bingeing and purging, and depriving your body of the nutrients it needs to function properly does NOT help you lose weight and keep it off. In fact, it does more damage to your body than if you had never tried to lose the weight in the first place. When you starve yourself, you wreck your metabolism. You send it into a tailspin that is soon out of control, you lose muscle mass, and you start getting light-headed and dizzy, can't think straight, and otherwise totally mess yourself up. Don't do it!

4. Crunches And Other Ab-Only Exercises.

This is one that most women just don't get. They reason that if they're trying to get rid of love handles, doing tummy and abdominal exercises is the way to go, right? But that's really only half right. Because in addition to exercises for the abdominals, your body needs a regular cardio workouts to increase your heart rate, get the oxygen moving through your body, and burn fat. You've got to burn the fat to get rid of it. It won't just disappear on its own.

If you've made these mistakes in the past, don't get discouraged. Just don't repeat them. Learn from your mistakes. You can still lose weight - and start losing love handles in the process, and while it will take a little longer than the hyped-up advertisements suggest, you can get in great shape and stay that way-by doing it the healthy way!
