There are millions of people who are carrying around excess weight, especially in the belly area. If you have an abdomen that sports that proverbial "spare tire" then love handles are inevitable. I finally realised how to lose the love handles by setting myself some goals.

Setting SMART goals will help you create a path to success that will help you lose those love handles faster than you thought possible.

SMART goals are those that are:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Time bounded

Let's look at each of these elements that will help you lose your love handles for good:

Specify your Goal

Having a specific goal, or outcome, in mind helps you focus your efforts and energy. You will be able to realize more results if you specify losing 15 pounds instead of just thinking about losing some weight. Make your statements and objective very specific to the idea of what it is that you hope to accomplish.

Make it Measurable

Your goals should be measurable and you should keep track of your progress. There should be a way for you to see that your work and efforts are paying off throughout the process.

Achieve What You Believe

You should set goals that are achievable and within your reach. Bear in mind that average weight loss is 1-3 pounds a week. No one is going to shed pounds and inches overnight, or even in a week's time. Set modest goals at the beginning of your program and as you reach your target, you can add new ones.

Realistic Goals are Really Important

Realistic goals are a key to your success if you really want to lose those love handles. You should not expect to whittle your waistline from 40 inches to 24 inches in just a few weeks. If you make sure that your goals are rational and realistic then you will be much more likely to achieve them.

Time Bounded Goals

You need to have goals that are time bound which means that you are working within a specific time frame. Keep in mind that the time you are listing needs to be as realistic and achievable as your goals. Having a specific timeline will also give additional structure to your plan for losing love handles.

Your love handle weight loss goals should include getting in daily exercise and should also include a food diary and nutritional guidelines.
